6 things you want to know about Vietnamese coffee
When people know that I'm Vietnamese and also a big fan of Vietnamese coffee, they keep asking me the same questions about this delicious coffee. So today, I'm bringing you answers to the six most common questions about Vietnamese coffee, in particular, the Vietnamese iced coffee (ca phe sua da).
1. Is Vietnamese coffee strong?
Generally yes. This is because most Vietnamese coffees are of Robusta beans, which have nearly twice as much caffeine as Arabica beans.
2. Is Vietnamese coffee healthy?
Well, just as anything else - balance is the key. If you enjoy the traditional Vietnamese coffee with sweetened condensed milk, then limit it to one or two cups a day. If you just drink it straight black, then fewer calories and a more intense caffeine boost :)
3. Is Vietnamese coffee sweet?
With sweetened condensed milk, then yes, it is very sweet. If you just talk about coffee beans, the rule is: the more Arabica content, the sweeter; the more Robusta content, the more bitter. Try different blends with different proportions of these beans and see which one you like most.
4. Is Vietnamese coffee espresso?
Well, technically it's not, but Vietnamese coffee beans can create an excellent espresso. Since Vietnamese coffee beans are generally Robusta, they are perfect beans for making espresso with a beautiful layer of crema on top.
5. Is Vietnamese coffee keto-friendly?
Sure, if it is just black and/or with ice. But to be strictly keto, replace the sweetened condensed milk with heavy cream, coconut cream and keto sweeteners.
6. Is Vietnamese coffee vegan?
Again, yes if it's just black and/or with ice. Replace the traditional sweetened condensed (cow) milk with coconut milk to make it vegan friendly.
